Golf Overview
During the spring and summer of 2007, the Mount Washington course, originally designed by Donald Ross (1915), was caringly restored to the specifications of the original plans with the help of Brian Silva. The course will open in August of 2008.
Also, under the guidance of Brian Silva, the Mount Pleasant course will be renovated and expanded to a full 18-hole course. Construction will begin in the spring of 2010 with the intention to have the project completed by the fall of 2011.

Architect Brian Silva Directs Restoration of Ross Course at Mount Washington Resort
by Lee Pace
To his right looms the Presidential Range of the White Mountains, its peak kissing the blue sky at 6,288 feet.
To his left stands the majestic Mount Washington Hotel, its white siding and bright red roof beckoning visitors just as it has for more than a century.
And in the valley between this striking eye candy are the bones to an 82-year-old golf course designed by the renowned architect Donald Ross. Green sites on this July morning in 2007 are shaped with sand and greens mix, fairways are dirt and the men on the bulldozers are nipping the ground here, tucking it there under the watchful eye of golf architect Brian Silva. Silva excited about expansion of Mount Pleasant Course
by Lee Pace
Golf was first played in the valley beneath the peaks of the Presidential Range in Bretton Woods as early as 1895. Joseph Stickney, the owner of the elegant Mount Pleasant House, one of the grand hotels that thrived in the late 19th century in the White Mountains, retained Scottish golf architect Alex Findlay to cobble out a nine-hole layout.
The Mount Washington Hotel was built several hundred yards to the north of Mount Pleasant House and opened in 1902. Eleven years later, architect Donald Ross began construction on a new 18-hole layout that opened in 1915. The original Mount Pleasant course was disbanded, and the land sat idle for some 70 years. The Mount Pleasant House was razed in 1939. Read the full article.
Silva's New England roots, classic leanings give him ideal perspective for Mount Washington job

Strap on your helmet and goggles if you're going to spend a few hours with Brian Silva on the golf course. You're in for a fun ride.
He's animated. The 5-foot-7 Silva reaches up to drape one arm around a bull-dozer operator - a "shaper" in the nomenclature of golf course construction - and with the other arm points to the expanse of a green taking shape on the Donald Ross-designed course he's restoring at Mount Washington Resort. Golf World Has Healthy Respect for Treasures in Donald Ross Golf Courses
by Lee Pace
The phones started ringing in the Chicago offices of the American Society of Golf Course Architects shortly after the 1999 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. Members of Donald Ross designed golf courses wanted more information about Ross and how to determine how genuine their course might be after watching Payne Stewart out-duel Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods on a course Ross first opened in 1907 and essentially completed in 1935.
